Training Day One

Today was my first day of official Navy Seals training. After a grueling weekend of extreme soreness from my testing workout on Friday (the level of pain attesting to my level of out-of-shape-ness), I was glad to get back in the gym. Though I did dread it all day long. Especially after my workout buddy announced to our ENTIRE team today how long it took me to do the mile and a half on Friday. Ah-hem. Thank you, Sharon. Well, if anything, it adds accountability to this on the work-end, too. (And I have promised to kick her butt in arm wrestling at the end of all of this.)

Day One looked like this:
(After being trained on how to use the machines)
-5 mins of cardio warm up on the bike (whilst talking to my boss Angela who is the most fit 50 year old I've ever seen)
-Shoulder Press machine
-Dips
-The French Press...otherwise known as the Skull Crusher
-Chest Press machine
-Row/Pull Bar machine thingy
-Crunches
-Sit ups
-Walk/Jog 1 mile

I will have you know it took me 14 1/2 minutes to do the mile, and I jogged quite a bit, so I'm sticking to saying Friday's 37 mins was a total fluke. This time I had my trusty iPod and blasted Mary J's "Work it Out", which I did. Work it out, I mean.

And get this...I sweated. Real, dripping, icky sweat. Man, that felt good!

Workout Update

In the spirit of accountability and complete honesty, I am about to reveal to you the numbers I reached during my Navy Seals testing today. **Warning** It's not pretty. But I tell myself posting them where other people will read them will motivate me more to make those numbers greater (or lesser, as need be). So here we go:

In 2 minutes, I had to do as many pushups, situps and pullups as I could. Here are the results:
Pushups: 27
Situps: 58
Pullups: 0 (though i did hang halfway up for a few seconds before cracking up and falling to the ground in near hysterics)
Run/walk 1.5 miles for time: 27 minutes (this would mean it would take about 4 hours if I attempted the half marathon right now)

Does it get any uglier?

In the spirit of love and concern for all of my blog readers, I will NOT share with you the numbers that will surely make you gag...my weight and measurements. Suffice it to say, I'm heavier now than I've ever been in my life. Ick. Ick ick ick. And for the first time, I had a thigh measurement taken...double ick.

I should note that I had a very surreal feeling the whole time I was there. I seriously kept spacing out and realized later that I went into high school gym mode...where I only half listened to the instructor and had to be told at least twice what to do. Not good. At least there's not a huge rope in the middle of the gym I have to climb before I can go home!

So Monday begins the official first day of the Navy Seals program. When I go to the gym, my workout schedule will be posted for all to see, and for me to attempt. I will post weekly updates to keep myself accountable, and for your amusement. (Though I'm not at all offended if you could care less and skip over these posts! Not the most exciting topic, I know.)

Off to the races!
