This morning we had both missed early morning calls from Johna, so when I finally dragged my butt out of bed, we called her back. We were so thrilled to talk with her! She sounds super happy...excited to talk with us, yes, but really sounded like she's adjusting to and enjoying her new life. She told us about her new school, her new neice and nephew that she got to hold (yes, that means Nando is an uncle at 2 years old! and she put Nando on the phone. When we talked to him and as we talked to Johna and could hear him in the background, he sounded pretty out of it, like he is not adjusting well. He's probably completely out of the routine we had worked so hard to get him into which is hard for any 2 year old. We're confident he'll adjust eventually. We're remembering how long it took him to get used to us and living here. Overall, though, we feel so good that her dad and grandma allowed Johna to call us! She actually called two of the other Urban directors who live a street away, too, so we know they'll be keeping an eye out for her.
I was also able to talk to grandma and say that we're so happy that things worked out and the kids are able to live with family. She seemed receptive to that but didn't have much to say..maybe she was caught of guard by our reaction to the whole situation, who knows. But at any rate, at least the door of communication has been cracked open now. Hopefully over the next weeks and months we're able to keep opening it and be a part of the kids' lives.
What a great Sunday morning treat! We're so thankful for this reassurance from God that the kids are going to be okay. They're fully in His hands now.

Wow, that's great! I was wondering what the chances were that you'd stay in contact. Praise the Lord.
